For many of us, the ’90s were spent watching episodes of Beavis And Butt-Head while enjoying their cynical, inane chatter about the bands and songs that we loved. Now, over 25 years since the show premiered, the pair have come out of retirement again to heap praise on Portugal. The Man.

From 1992 until 1997, Beavis And Butt-Head was arguably one of the most iconic TV shows of the decade. Between spawning Daria as a spin-off, and introducing young people to countless new and old bands, the titular duo were famous for their nihilistic world view and their derisive comments towards almost everything.

While the show did return in 2011 for one season, it’s revival was short-lived and left many people wondering if there was any life for Beavis And Butt-Head in the future. Now, the duo have resurfaced once again, this time as part of a tour video for US rockers Portugal. The Man.

Yes, as it turns out, Portugal. The Man have been opening their recent gigs with a brief clip that shows Beavis and Butt-Head making fun of one of of their music videos in typical fashion, before one of them has a rather sobering epiphany about the group.

Opening with scenes from the video for Portugal. The Man’s global smash ‘Feel It Still’, the iconic laughter of the pair can be heard before their snarky comments start flooding in. Soon though, Butt-Head finds himself realising something rather profound about the group’s quality.

“He’s not misunderstood; it is us who have misunderstood,” begins Butt-Head. “This does suck, but this sucks so hard that it sucked a hole through the dimensional wall into awesomeness. When you compress this much crap under the force of this much pretension, you create a beautiful diamond.”

“This is the greatest band that has ever walked the Earth, but they do not walk the Earth, they float above it, for they are as Gods,” he continues. “They are better than The Beatles, better than The Rolling Stones, better than Silverchair, almost as good as Pantera.”

“They are our rightful lords and masters. Ladies and gentlemen, bow down to the greatest band in the world, Portugal. The Man.”

Of course, it might sound rather odd to hear Silverchair thrown in there among names like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Pantera, but the Newcastle rockers were one of the few Aussie acts to get a spin on the show’s original run back in the day.

While watching the clip for the group’s single ‘Tomorrow’, Butt-Head famously commented on the video, noting “I think this is supposed to be, like, freaking us out, but I’m un-freaked. In fact, this video is making me feel totally normal.”
