In April, Beck announced his new album Hyperspace, and released a brand new single ‘Saw Lightning’. Tone Deaf called the single “an eclectic, percussive-heavy alt-pop ditty riddled with melancholic harmonica and schizophrenic lyricism.”

Because Beck is the enigma gift that keeps on giving, the LA-based Grammy winner has now completely stripped back the single to its bare bones.

His vocals, his stomping feet, and a harmonica puncture through the air and fill the space where Pharrell Williams’ co-production sat. Pharrell’s contribution of drums and mumbles gave original track a feverish energy. Now, that energy is more raw than ever.

The clip, directed by Giovanni Ribisi and edited by Nick Roney, further satiates our hunger in anticipation for Beck’s forthcoming 14th album, Hyperspace, due out sometime in the future on Capitol Records.
