Melbourne readers will know Shadow Electric as a much-loved stalwart of the local live music scene that’s been providing top-notch entertainment in the form of live music and mind-bending art installations to Melbourne punters for years.

As Beat reports, the multi-purpose venue, which is based within The Abbotsford Convent at 1 St Heliers St, Abbotsford, was robbed last night following a fundraising launch for a magazine.

The thieves made off with two extremely expensive Technics SL-1200s, a model of turntable which is no longer currently made. The two turntables were stolen from the venue’s green room.

According to Beat, one of the Technics stolen was a Japanese model with a 110v plug, while the other had a Jim’s ‘tag and testing’ yellow sticker on the cord.

“We are keen to see them returned ASAP,” the venue told Beat. “If someone ‘finds’ the turntables before close of business today can they please contact the Abbotsford Convent on (03) 9415 3600.”

“We are waiting on access for CCTV footage which will be passed onto the police if no one comes forward by COB today.” If you were at the event or have any info about the stolen items, please contact The Shadow Electric.

The venue recently announced an exciting new music and video collaboration series set to kick off this August. ‘Visions’ will feature some of Australia’s best loved local acts, pairing them with spectacular, unique visuals.

Taking advantage of Shadow Electric’s 34-metre square cinema screen, which will be relocated to Brunswick and erected in the historic Estonian House, this will be an innovative series of audio-visual experiences.

Over the past four years, Shadow Electric have produced and programmed over 300 cinema screenings along with 200 band room shows, in addition to combining the two for incredible atmospheric outdoor performances from Kurt Vile, Mac DeMarco, Courtney Barnett, and more.
