The Big Day Out 2014 sideshows have been announced.

Following this week’s second Big Day Out 2014 lineup announcement, adding a handful of artists to the bill for next January’s edition of the long-running festival, now come the first round of headline dates to run in tandem with the festival.

While Pearl Jam and Blur are playing exclusively at the Big Day Out – with no sideshows outside the touring one-day event – another of the ‘white whales’ on the triple headlining bill have announced sideshows, Arcade Fire.

As well as the Canadian art rock collective, there’s sideshows from the one and only Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion/Snoopzilla), who will be playing shows with fellow hip hop head Mac Miller, as well as a one-off date with Major Lazer, who in turn are playing separate headline shows also.

There’s also a special ‘Evening with…’ performance from funk metal pioneers Primus, playing two full sets in one night, folk rock sensations The Lumineers, and new wave rockers Grouplove teaming up with Brazilian indie artist CSS.

As well as the already announced dates from Mudhoney, other bands on the bill also playing Big Day Out sideshows is the chilled out Toro Y Moi and wacky alt rock outfit Portugal, The Man, and Britain pop rock group The 1975.

Snoop Dogg & Mac Miller Big Day Out 2014 Sideshows

As the go-to-man to get your booty movin’, Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion) has solidified his position as the world’s leading hip hop artist. Recently adopting the moniker Snoop Lion after an inspirational trip to Jamaica, these shows will be the first time Australians will see the reinvented ‘reggae’ superstar live on stage performing a mix of Lion tracks and his greatest Dogg hits! Joining Da Big Bo$$ Dogg on these very smooth shows is none-other than Mac Miller, a close friend of Snoop’s and one of the brightest stars in the hip hop scene. 21 year old Mac Miller has been making huge waves in the music world with two US top #3 albums already under his belt.

This is it… One for the ages. A massive triple headlining bill are coming together for what will be the feel-good party of the season in Brisbane this Summer. You get rap icon Snoop Dogg performing both his greatest hits as the Doggfather as well as the reggae-fied rebirth that is Snoop Lion; you get Major Lazer, one of the music world’s preeminent party-starters with their mix of dub, Jamaican dancehall, electro fusion and great character, then rounding it out is Chicago Trap pair, Flosstradamus. This is a not-to-be-missed triple header!

Major Lazer are going to tear the roof off two sideshows in Melbourne and Sydney this January, thanks to a little help from their friends in Flosstradamus. The two artists have let hoards of people know what’s up when they take the stage at Mad Decent’s block parties across the USA. Together they have partied and made beautiful music. Major Lazer are the ultimate party personified, renowned for their insane live shows and collaborations with everyone from Peaches to Vampire Weekend. The Chicago-based pair of Flosstradamus are leaders in the modern Trap scene, Mad Decent Block Party staples and true believers in the mantra “Peace, Love, Unity, Respect… Now Twerk.”

Often imitated but never replicated, Primus are as unique as they come. To celebrate, they are inviting you to spend An Evening With Primus in Sydney this January. Grouplove & CSS Big Day Out 2014 Sideshows

Get your dancing shoes on; indie-pop favourites Grouplove and those classy Brazilians in CSS are coming together for two fun-as-hell sideshows this January. Grouplove started the party this year with ‘Ways To Go’ – an anthem amongst friendship circles and downright one of the catchiest songs in recent times. This is perfectly paired with CSS, who have what The New York Times perfectly described as “A gleeful throwback to early-1980’s art-school pop.” Grab the person next to you, start dancing and make new friends this Summer.

Toro Y Moi & Portugal, The Man Big Day Out 2014 Sideshows

Two unlikely acts on the Big Day Out 2014 bill are coming together for what will be one of the most talked about sideshows this Big Day Out. Chaz Bundick is Toro Y Moi, leader of the chill-wave scene a bedroom project influenced by his parents’ tape and vinyl collection. Now a full-fledged career of highly-acclaimed albums and a stunning live show that has seem him on some of the biggest festival circuits in the world, including Big Day Out. Portugal. The Man, arguably one of Portland, OR’s bands, have spent the better half of 2013 celebrating the release of their Danger Mouse-produced 7th LP Evil Friends.

The 1975 have announced they will be playing two intimate sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this January as part of their national Big Day Out tour in their maiden voyage of Australia. The buzz around their self-titled debut album with their mix of indie-rock and pop sensibilities saw The 1975 storm the UK charts at #1 and create a splash worldwide.
