The 2nd Big Day Out 2014 lineup has been announced with another round of bands added to the bill for the iconic Aussie music festival.

Adding a number of new bands, as well as refugees from new Big Day Out co-promoter AJ Maddah’s cancelled Harvest 2013 festival, the 2nd Big Day Out 2014 lineup adds a number of rock acts, Aussie artists, and something for the hip hop heads.

Leading the lineup announcement is funk metal pioneers Primus, Vista Chino (nee Kyuss/Kyuss Lives), peerless Aussie group The Drones, Brazilian indie outfit CSS, and festival favourites Bluejuice.

Also in the 2nd Big Day Out 2014 lineup announcement are Sydney MC Kerser, Brisbane four-piece Violent Soho, fellow Sunshine Coast indie popsters The Jungle Giants, All The Colours, and playing every date save Adelaide, Bliss N Eso, while Melbourne rapper 360 will be subbed in on the Adelaide leg to fulfil the Aussie hip hop duties.

The Les Claypool-led Primus were originally scheduled to be a part of the second Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement, but along with CSS (which Maddah had previously hinted at adding) and The Drones, have instead made the jump from Maddah’s axed Harvest 2013 festival lineup to the Big Day Out 2014 bill.

Meanwhile, The Drones appearance caps a critically acclaimed year that’s earned the band a J Award, AMP, and ARIA nominations, and nods in The Age Music Victoria Awards for their sixth and latest (and possibly best) album, I See Seaweed.

Aussie hip hop is well represented in the 2nd Big Day Out 2014 lineup announcement. Bliss N Eso are a major addition, capping a stellar year since the release of their latest ARIA nominated LPCircus In The Sky, which was one of the year’s fastest selling albums when it debuted at #1 upon release.

Unfortunately for Adelaide fans, the hip hop trio won’t be playing the Adelaide leg of the festival, but Melbourne MC 360 will be on hand as a star substitute, while Sydney-based rapper Kerser will be playing all dates across the festival.

The festival’s promoters had previously downplayed the second lineup announcement, with newly minted Big Day Out co-promoter AJ Maddah already describing it as a “supplementary announcement,” while fellow presenter Ken West had said not to expect any “massive’ artists to be added to the festival’s ‘white whale’ headliner acts, Pearl Jam, Blur, and Arcade Fire.

Big Day Out 2014 Tickets are $185 each, all inclusive (with no additional booking fees) and on sale now, while the VIP Like A Boss tickets are $285, offering main stage views, exclusive entry and amenities, souvenir tickets, gifts, and more.
