Green Day’s wonky-toothed singer Billie Joe Armstrong is to star in the Broadway musical ‘American Idiot’ he helped create in 2004. Armstrong will play the role of St Jimmy- a self-destructive thrill-seeking drug addict who serves as an outlet for the frustrated Johnny, who is not intent on becoming an American idiot.

The musical was based on Green Day’s concept album of the same name, and has achieved a remarkable amount of success on the Broadway circuit, earning rave reviews from the New York Times and winning several Tony awards this year. Billie Joe will appear in eight performances over one week from September 28th to October 3rd, replacing the real actor Tony Vincent who is dealing with ‘personal issues’.

Break a leg Billie. Seriously.
