In recent years, we thought that as far as rock stars diverting their attention to conspiracy theories and aliens go, you couldn’t go past ex-Blink-182 member Tom DeLonge. Now, it seems as though DeLonge may have company in his camp of believers with The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan opening up about his tale of the paranormal.
As Stereogum reports, Billy Corgan recently sat down for a chat with controversial radio host Howard Stern to promote his new record, Ogilala. During the interview, it became clear that Corgan has had a few strange experiences over the years, speaking of the time he met a ‘shapeshifter’.
“Let’s just say I was with somebody once and I saw a transformation that I can’t explain,” he said. When pressed for more information, Corgan confirmed that he was totally sober during the ordeal, but maintained that he didn’t really want to go into further detail. “It’s a really messed up story,” he explained. “It’s up there with one of the most intense things I’ve ever been through.”
Despite being, as Corgan put it, “vague on purpose”, Stereogum also noted that he spoke of a different time in which his girlfriend supposedly saw something that looked his mother walking across the kitchen. “It was like this weird ripple in time thing,” he offered.
Of course, Billy Corgan (or William Patrick Corgan, as he is credited on his new album) isn’t the first musician to receive publicity for their belief in the paranormal, with former Blink-182 member Tom DeLonge an outspoken commentator on the existence of aliens.
In fact, DeLonge’s obsession with aliens is so well-documented that he has not only won an award for his research on the topic, but he’s also in the process of making a film on the topic, and has most recently started his own UFO research academy to explore the “outer edges of science”.
While we’re not sure if their shared belief will result in the two legendary musicians collaborating in some way, we’re sure the end result would indeed be… out of this world.
