This is tough. I can’t even write 50 words. I don’t know where our bio is. I do remember that there was a press release that Liam wrote. It was pretty cool He’s a good writer. It probably mentioned some gold facts, but wrapped it up in a collection of beautiful prose. You won’t see that in the next collection of words. I can give you some facts though. We just finished recording a new 7 inch, which is probably our best work to date. Actually, this part is suppose to be facts. It is our best work to date. We have two shows in November, one with Beaches and Exhaustion at the Jon Curtain on the 10th and the other at where?house, as part of Melbourne music week on the 19th. Shit 142 words. Not bad.

What’s your earliest memory of performing and who inspired you to start?

I don’t remember the performance as much as the review. I was about 7 at my uncle Neville’s house. I don’t think he was really an uncle, actually, he was my Nanna’s brother. What the hell sort of a relative is that, I don’t think that even means we’re related at all. Anyway, I put on a bit of a show apparently cause I remember getting in the car to go home and Mum and Dad ripping me a new one because i’d been “showing off”. I’m not sure what inspired me to start that specific performance, like I said, I don’t even remember it but at a guess, i’d say it was probably boredom.

You must answer this question honestly or we steal your rider. What and where was the first gig you went to?

I watched my older brother’s ex wife’s dad play in his back yard in Elizabeth SA (have you seen snow town?). The guitarist walked to the show from his house carrying a purple electric guitar, the cops hassled him, thinking he’d stolen it. It was New Years Eve. I scored my first ever date that night. This girl got my number and called me up. I went to her house and we watched Ren and Stimpy for hours. I was into wearing caps back then. I wanted to kiss that girl, but I didn’t know what to do with the peak of my cap if I went for the lean in. I didn’t want to take it off, cause I was worried that I had hat hair. I never did the lean in. Years later (just now) it’s become apparent to me that I should’ve just turned my cap backwards.

How do you guys feel about Adelaide’s scene at the moment?

Adelaide’s music scene will always be great. It might not be instantly apparent, but I’m pretty sure that there has never been a time since scenes were invented that there hasn’t been a great music scene in Adelaide. Unless you’re after huge, then you’ll be disappointed.

What’s on heavy rotation on your iPod right now?

I’m a bit ancient and I don’t really listen to music through headphones, but I get what you’re asking. I’ve been listening to a lot of Charlie Poole lately. That guy knew how to party, which is probably why he died at age 39.

What Adelaide band should way more people be paying attention to?

I don’t think I could answer this question any more honestly than saying “home for the def”. I don’t mean to be jumping to conclusions here, but I doubt you’ve heard of him. Not many people have outside of Adelaide. Home for the Def is a one man band that’s been going for well over 10 years now. The shows are like nothing I’ve ever seen before and the music is very amazing. I don’t think it’s the best music in the world or anything sensational like that, but there are some seriously way crapper bands out there, who’ve contributed nothing whatsoever to anything at all, yet have been adored by the masses. Home for the Def is the complete opposite of that.

If you could curate your own festival, where would it be, who would be on the bill, how many people would you let in and what features would it have ?

I think I’d like to get school of radiant living, old mate, UV race, woolen kits, twerps and andrew wk to play a two day festival on an isolated stretch on the Murray River. Three bands a day. 25 minute sets. BYO everything. Andrew WK wouldn’t have to play, I don’t even know his songs, I just reckon he’d be fun to hang out with. Very limited tickets.

How was your national album tour?

Heaps of fun. It was my birthday in the middle of it.

Because it’s more fun to do things together, which living Australian artist would you most like to collaborate with? Tell us why?

My mate Gus plays in Boom Gates. I’d like to collaborate with him. He plays guitar in a style that I’m pretty fond of and he’s very easy going. It would also be pretty easy, cause we both live in Footscray. It’s actually going to happen, I hope it doesn’t suck.

What is your band’s music the best soundtrack for?

I don’t think it would be the ‘best’ soundtrack, in fact i’m very positive that there would be better soundtracks out there for this kind of thing, but I reckon we’d make a pretty good soundtrack to grocery shopping, but only in a supermarket during a quiet time. It wouldn’t suit the markets or any place crazy busy like that.
