The wondrously unique queen of the 90s, Björk, has just announced a special limited-edition deluxe box set version of her 2017 album Utopia, with features a box of handmade flutes especially designed for the purpose of calling birds.

Anyone who has heard the lengthy and ambitious project, would recognise the use of multiple different bird calls throughout the duration of the project. That, and a whole lot of flutes, all combined with the loud and sometimes jarring production by longtime collaborator Arca.

Not long ago Björk dropped the video for track ‘Losss’, which features all the elements mentioned above. And now, you can have your very own bird-call flute thanks to Björk! Home production of ‘Losss’ at my place guys, you’re all invited, bring your bird-call flutes.

Björk has been taking Utopia on tour again with Cornucopia, a new theatrical stage show based on her most recent album, and now she’s reissuing the album in its entirety with a new deluxe box set featuring 14 handmade bird-call flutes individually selected by her very hands. She explained in an official statement:

utopia is so much about birdsong and sonically the mutation between synth/bird , bird/flute , flute/synth ……. air like that was a theme through all of the album . so i got very excited when i found these handmade wooden flutes imitating precisely particular birds . and i guess wanted you guys to have an opportunity to share that with me …….. enjoy !!!
warmthness, björk.”

It just wouldn’t be a Björk letter without all lower case and the word warmthness at the end, would it?

Created in collaboration with the French company Quelle est Belle, the box set comes in a bespoke perspex case with an intricate design and tinted side panels designed by M/M (Paris). It’ll set you back an absolutely whopping £500, which is around $900 Australian. I don’t know guys maybe I can just sing out of my window and pray for some magpies to come visit?
