50 years after they first formed, iconic metal band Black Sabbath are set to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at 2019 Grammys.

First awarded back in 1963, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award has been handed out to “performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”

Needless to say, if you score yourself one of these, you’ve obviously made quite a mark on the world of music.

Now, just under two months out from the 2019 Grammy Awards, The Recording Academy has revealed the acts who will be receiving the special awards next year.

As Variety reports, Black Sabbath, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Billy Eckstine, Donny Hathaway, Julio Iglesias, Sam & Dave, and Dionne Warwick are all set to receive the special awards at next year’s ceremony.

Previous years have seen some of music’s biggest names being given a Lifetime Achievement Award, with the likes of Queen, Tina Turner, and Neil Diamond taking home the awards in 2018.

A number of other awards will also be handed out, with producer Lou Adler, artists and songwriters Ashford and Simpson, and songwriter Johnny Mandel all set to receive Trustees Awards. Meanwhile, audio innovator Saul Walker is set to be given a Technical Grammy Award.

While the 2019 Grammy Awards are set to be handed out on February 10th, 2019, Variety notes that the ceremony for the Lifetime Achievement Award recipients is set to take place three months later on May 11th.

Just last month, it was announced that Black Sabbath were set to be honoured with a bridge and a bench in their hometown of Birmingham. While these plans are still awaiting approval, we’re not sure which of these awards would flatter the folks in Black Sabbath more.

In related news, Black Sabbath frontman is set to visit Australia for what is ostensibly the final time next year for the 2019 edition of Download Festival. Meanwhile, George Clinton is also set to say farewell to Australia when he visits for next year’s edition of Bluesfest. Check out all the details below.
