Blink-182 fans have been stunned by Mark Hoppus’ recent Tweet, alerting them to the fact they’ve been singing one of the band’s lyrics wrong for almost two decades.
Back in April of 1999, Blink-182 released the first single from their upcoming album, Enema Of The State. Titled ‘What’s My Age Again?’, the track was a humorous look at the idea of growing older but still acting as immature as ever.
Needless to say, it’s a classic track, and has been featured in just about every Blink-182 concert setlist since its release. But of course, with a track being so iconic amongst pop-punk fans, it makes sense that we all know the lyrics inside out, right? Well, maybe…
On Sunday night, Blink-182 vocalist and bassist Mark Hoppus took to Twitter to share a relatively innocuous Tweet about his evening. “Due to personal reasons I will be wearing cologne to get the feeling right,” Hoppus wrote, referencing the band’s 1999 song.
While some fans joked around with the fact that Hoppus shared his Tweet on a Sunday night, and not a Friday like the song suggests, others noted that this lyric was nothing like what they had been singing for all these years.

STOP WHY DID I THINK IT WAS “I WALK ALONG”

Yes, apparently a large portion of Blink-182 fans had been hearing the line “I took her out, it was a Friday night/I wore cologne to get the feeling right” as “I walk alone to get the feeling right.” Understandably, they were rather shaken by this discovery.
While fans were still fighting over whether or not the band’s name is pronounced ‘Blink One Eight Two’ or ‘Blink One Eighty Two’, the question still remains here; how could folks have gotten this one so wrong?
After all, the lyrics describe a 23-year-old man going out on a date with a young lady, noting his decision to wear cologne to help spice things up. How would walking alone in any way help to “get the feeling right”?
It’s confusing, no doubt, but as one fan did joke, they had frequently thought that Green Day’s ‘Boulevard Of Broken Dreams’ said the phrase “I wore cologne” instead of “I walk alone”. Let’s just be happy these mistaken music-lovers didn’t make an even worse error.
Of course, Mark Hoppus seemed to take the whole thing in his stride, later taking to Twitter to admonish those fans who had been singing the track wrong all these years. “Science fact,” he began. “If you thought the lyrics were ‘I WALK ALONE to get the feeling right,’ you are a Fake Fan™️.”
