Tom DeLonge has made his musical endeavours clear, noting that he plans to rejoin Blink-182 at some point “in the future”.

Back in 2015, the world of music was shocked to learn that 23 years since he co-founded the band, Tom DeLonge had left Blink-182.

While punk fans were undoubtedly stunned, their sadness was somewhat alleviated by the news that Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba was stepping in to replace the void left by DeLonge.

Since then, things have been going quite well for Blink-182, receiving critical acclaim for their 2016 album, California, and achieving some of their highest chart positions in years.

However, fans still wondered when and if Tom DeLonge might return to his old band.

In late 2015, DeLonge claimed he was “totally willing and interested” in reuniting with his former bandmates, before claiming in 2017 that he still “owns the band” – in regards to the group’s name, trademark, and recordings – and that he would rejoin at a later date.

Now, Tom DeLonge has reaffirmed his future return, explaining to Kerrang! that he will come back to Blink-182 once he finds time away from his UFO research and Angels & Airwaves commitments.

“I get it – trust me, I love Blink and it’s given me everything in my life,” DeLonge explained. “And, you know, I plan on doing it in the future.”

“But right now there’s just no way – I have way too much going on because Angels & Airwaves is a part of To The Stars, and that’s why it works.”

While Angels & Airwaves recently returned with their first new single in three years, along with album and tour plans, Tom DeLonge notes that he’s tried to look past the expectations of fans, attempting to do what he feels is best for himself.

“Breadcrumbs and baby steps got me here, and even when I left Blink the first time, I dealt with a lot of losing my identity and people being angry with me,” he explained. “I had to rebuild who I am and what I want to do with my life, and the world didn’t support it, really.”

“I understand why, but then over time, they started to understand who I am and why I need to do the things I do.”

“They go, ‘Okay, this guy is really into these big concepts and this anthemic, triumphant music,’ and all that shit, and then they see me go and start my company and they go, ‘Holy shit, he’s really into space and these themes.’”

While there’s no word yet as to when or if Tom DeLonge will indeed return to Blink-182, or if Angels & Airwaves will make their return to Australian shores soon, it appears that his old band are gearing up to release their new album quite soon, with new song ‘Blame It On My Youth’ being unleashed last week.
