The first bands of the Boogie 8 lineup have been announced, with a fine collection of artists headed to the hidden gem of the Aussie music festival scene.

Once gain hosted at the fine home of Bruzzy’s Farm in the rolling hills of Tallarook of regional Vicotria, this year’s Boogie 8 lineup is set to continue the festival’s tradition of great tunes, along with top notch food, unique settings, hand selected and affordable booze, free camping and train travel to and from Melbourne, and best of all – good, good times.

So who ensures the ‘good, good’ soundtrack? An impressive list of local and international music mavericks that together may just form the best Boogie bill yet, and following the eclectic mix of previous years, that’s saying quite a bit of this year’s bunch providing three days’ worth of tuneage.

Leading the Boogie 8 lineup is none other than cosmic blues purveyor and guitar prodigy, Gary Clark Jr, who’s in town next April for Bluesfest and other festivals, but he and his band of cowboy pirates will stretch their musical legs for as long as they like on the Tallarook stage for Boogie.

Representing the Western States is psych-rock big leaguers, POND, who have long come out of the shadow of sister band Tame Impala, with the release of their latest slice of studio scuzzery Hobo Rocket, with their next full-length already named (Man It Feels Like Space Again, brilliant) and in the can before they even embark on their national tour for Hobo Rocket.

Also on the Boogie 8 lineup from international waters is Americana favourite Jason Isbell, himself a Boogie 4 alumni, returning to rock with his Southern fried band. The legendary Vic Simms also hits the Boogie stage, the latest since crossing his first in 1957 and the amazing career he’s had since. Joined by his band, The Halfway Allstars, Vic Simms will draw from his extensive catalogue.

Geelong’s note perfect, fringe perfect 60s garage punks The Frowning Clouds are also on the bill, along with the hardest working blues combo in the country, Chris Russell’s Chicken Walk, who already proved their live chops with a Golden Boots aloft set at Golden Plains earlier this year.

Looking internationally again, there’s Canadian rising star Lindi Ortega described as “the voice of a young Emmylou Harris just discovering Dolly Parton,” Nashville countrified partners The Mastersons, and Southern charmer, South Carolina’s Tift Merritt.

Other Aussie all-stars headed to Tallarook next Easter include Sydney’s loose everyday rockers Bed Wettin’ Bad Boys, guitar pop veterans Machine Translations, fellow Sydneysiders – punky pop girl group chanting Bloods, the rhythm and soul infused outfit Saint Jude, and the brutally ferocious Batpiss will entertain as well as scare.

Then there’s Teeth & Tongue (do check out their ace single ‘Good Man’), sunny Queensland dudes The Creases, bluegrass partystarters Mustered Courage, Adelaide party rockers Bad//Dreems, the dream pop cats of Day Ravies, POND’s mates, The Bottles Of Confidence, the delightful songsmiths of The Ocean Party, the laidback Luke Legs & The Midnight Specials, Stella Angelico and Warmth Crashes In, described as “My Bloody Valentine covering the Top Gun soundtrack.”

There may be a few more bands to sneak in on the Boogie 8 lineup in the coming weeks, but with that selection of artists it’s already a sweet bunch of characters that will make the Easter Weekend vibrate like never before.

Plus, don’t forget the very loose, very late night Hillybilly Clubhouse to keep the party rolling once the Boogie main stage goes to slumber, while the rusty old piece of metal on stage right will see Truck DJs deliver all your in-between, all-day music needs.

Lastly, but definitely not leastly, the one-of-a-kind Boxwars will deliver another cardboard spectacular to rival all their outstanding work of previous years. What will this year’s theme be? Stay tuned, and get excited.
