The full Boomerang Festival 2013 lineup has been announced today. After drip-feeding several additions over the last few months, the final pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place and the final curtain drawn on the list of bands, artists, dancers, and other performers for the eclectic Boomerang Festival 2013 lineup.
A unique celebration of Indigenous culture and music to be held on the long weekend of Friday 4th to Sunday 6th of October at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm – the regular home of Byron Bay’s award-winning Bluesfest – Boomerang Festival’s inaugural lineup is a feast of dance, theatre, comedy, film, visual arts, speakers, workshops and an impressive musical bill, topped by Gurrumul performing with the 24 piece Queensland Virtuoso Symphony Orchestra.
Boomerang Festival Artistic Director Rhoda Roberts calls it “the first of its kind, this is a festival experience where audiences have the opportunity to be personally touched by the experience of connecting and embracing the social, cultural and the spiritual aspects of Australia’s First peoples traditional lives and contemporary practices from across the globe.”
The full lineup sees over 15 bands added to the musical contingent of the bill. Joining the likes of the already announced Gurrumul, Archie Roach, Thelma Plum, The Medics, Busby Marou (and more) are Breabach (Scotland), Digging Roots (Canada), Nga Tae (NZ), Dubmarine (QLD), and many more.
The Boomerang International Indigenous Film Festival (BIIFF) will be launched featuring shorts, documentary and feature films including the award winning Reel Injun featuring Clint Eastwood and Adam Beach. Butcher Paper, Text, Blackboard and Chalk are just some of the other BIIFF selections screening.
Featuring some 133 performances and experiences celebrating Indigenous culture, with 70 clan groups represented from across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia, Boomerang Festival is the place to be this October long weekend.
