This is not a drill: a never seen recording of pop princess Britney Spears auditioning for the box office hit The Notebook has emerged on eBay. The starting bid? A cool US one million dollars *insert Dr Evil cackle here*.

While it’s not new news that Spears auditioned for the 2004 blockbuster film, the listing of the recording certainly is, with only 19 watchers at the time of writing.

“RARE: Britney Spears Audition For “The Notebook” – ONE OF A KIND – ORIGINAL,” the listing begins.

“The Notebook made Rachel McAdams a star. Little does anyone know, Britney Spears also auditioned for the role! It’s never before seen, until now. It was recorded on April 18th, 2002 on Sony Hi8mm. Her audition (with Ryan Gosling reading) runs one second short of 10 minutes.

“Own a piece of HISTORY!

“PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY! NOT TO BE SOLD OR DISTRIBUTED,” the listing concludes.

While the listing does seem a little suss, considering the seller bgk99 has only 14 reviews on their eBay review page in the past year, the listing does including some pretty convincing pics of Spears posing with Gosling in front of a blue curtain which looks a lot like an audition room. T

A super sleuth Spears fan uncovered the eBay auction and took to Twitter to share the exciting news.

Post about Britney Spears auditioning for The Notebook

In 2004 Gosling confirmed that Spears did indeed read for the role of Allie, a role which ended up going to Rachel McAdams.

“We met with a lot of actresses, and they were all very good,” Gosling told ET. “I did [screen test with Spears], yeah. I hadn’t seen her really since she was about 12 — we were both 12 — so she’s grown up, but she was really good, actually. She did a really nice job. We were 12, I don’t remember much from when I was 12, but yeah, no, she did an excellent job, actually. That was cool.”

Spears also alluded to the fact that she had auditioned for The Notebook when she revealed in a 2001 interview with Richard Blackwood that she had read for a role in a “love story” movie.

“What would excite me? Probably to get this amazing movie, this script that I read. They already have someone doing it, but I would die if I got to do it.”

“You’re trying to tell me they’re choosing somebody over you?” Blackwood asked Spears.

“I’m not gonna say! I can’t do that,” Spears said. “It’s the most amazing script I ever read.”

“What type of movie is it then?”

“It’s a love story, of course,” she replied.

While, as of now, there’s absolutely no proof whatsoever that the tape for auction is real, the excitement surrounding the possibility of being legit certainly is.
