We’ve undoubtedly been to at least one show where we’ve seen fans brought on stage by a band to help them bring up the mood. Why, Iggy Pop’s shows are notorious for fans climbing on stage and dancing, despite security’s best efforts to stop them. But sometimes it can end up backfiring, as Bush’s Gavin Rossdale discovered at a recent show.
As TMZ reports, Bush were playing Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday night when the incident occurred. As the band were set to launch into their final song, 1994’s ‘Comedown’, they invited a number of female fans onstage to presumably dance and sing the song with them, but sadly, it didn’t go as hoped.
As fan-shot footage shows, fans soon got in the way of frontman Gavin Rossdale as he attempted to perform, before a male fan then jumps on stage, waving his arms around and knocking over Rossdale’s microphone stand. As security tackles the punter and Rossdale looks on in disbelief, a female fan then grabs the microphone, attempting to sing the lyrics herself.
After Gavin Rossdale gets the microphone back, we can see security continuing to subdue the previous fan, while the rest of the band continues to play the song sans vocals. Needless to say, it’s an awkward watch that serves as a warning to the dangers of fan involvement at a show.
As it stands, it’s been six years since Bush last played on Australian shores, last visiting for the 2012 Soundwave Festival. While there’s no word yet as to future tour dates, we can definitely say that the chances of this recent onstage debacle occurring here are pretty slim.
