Cable Ties have postponed their US set of shows, but their Aussie shows are still going ahead as planned.
Following this week’s abrupt cancellation of SXSW, a move that prompted the band to postpone their debut North American tour, Melbourne’s rock-trio Cable Ties have today shared ‘Hope’, the third single off their forthcoming album, Far Enough, released Friday 27 March via Merge / Poison City.
A raw and considered self-reflection piece from Cable Ties’ vocalist and guitarist Jenny McKechnie, ‘Hope’ commences with no more than lulled vocals and restrained guitar and bass, before launching into an impassioned and powerful rock’n’roll opus.
An evident departure from the band’s previous outputs, ‘Hope’ is an uncomfortable personal examination for Jenny, a reflection of self-resilience during moments of helplessness, and a track that serves as the lyrical centrepiece of the record.
“This song is about losing hope and the importance of getting it back, even when you can see no logical reason to have it,” shares Jenny. “Without hope, anger becomes despair or bitterness.
“This is where the album starts to take a clear deviation from our previous album. I’m no longer righteously angry, looking out and shouting at the world. I start looking at myself and sometimes I don’t like what I see.”
Despite the cancellation of SXSW and the subsequent postponement of their US tour, the band will continue to tour throughout Europe as planned, before returning home for a national run of dates. Australian shows are on sale now and are moving fast.
