It’s one of the most unlikely friendships in recent times, but indie-rock darlings Car Seat Headrest and meme-rock (sorry) legends Smash Mouth have somehow become friends and are gearing up to release a new collaboration tomorrow.
Back in August of 2016, Smash Mouth shared a message on Twitter where they showed their appreciation for the Car Seat Headrest song ‘Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales’, leading to many hoping for a collab between the two bands.
Amazing constructed song, def gonna piss off the radio gate keepers but F them! All main choruses should start at 3min. ha!

I don’t think they would think that’s cool but we’re game.

In January of last year, Car Seat Headrest frontman Will Toledo explained that the idea of an actual pairing of the two groups “remains a mysterious front.”
“We’re hoping that something will happen with that in the future. Really, we don’t know what right now, but if nothing else, we’ll probably cover a few of their songs,” Toledo told triple j.
“I grew up obviously knowing their hits, and I have been listening a lot to Astro Lounge, and I still think it’s a great record. The songs really hold up as pop songs,” he continued.
“Right now, my plan is just to cover a couple things, but we really haven’t gotten into discussion as to what exactly it’s going to be.”
However, as Stereogum notes, it appears that the two bands are set to premiere a pair of covers tomorrow, with each band covering a song of the other. Unconfirmed reports claim that Smash Mouth is set to cover ‘Something Soon’, while Car Seat Headrest is set to cover ‘Fallen Horses’.

While we’re going to have to wait a little bit to see what these covers will sound like, we definitely have to say, we never expected to see the names Smash Mouth and Car Seat Headrest in the same headline together, let alone releasing collaborative tunes.
