Julian Casablancas has predicted that the new Strokes album (as yet untitled) will be released next March. Casablancas also admitted to BBC’s Radio 6 that the other members were recording it without him, but were almost halfway through the process. The delay appears due to The Strokes’ well-known perfectionism, something which has obviously contributed to their success and forms an integral part of their raw yet controlled sound. It still doesn’t explain why their last album wasn’t much chop.

The release of his solo album, Phrazes for the Young to great accaliam, has cast doubt over the future of The Strokes. Although he has admitted he is torn between his solo work and The Strokes, he says “I hate it when bands break up and never play again. I’m kind of split two ways now. I feel like my new [solo] thing is in more ways like The Strokes’ old thing was. And the new Strokes thing is something that I hope works and I hope everyone loves and makes everyone happy.”
