RAC’s Chapter One – an album of remixed versions of indie staples – has a lot of things going for it. Namely, the similarity between the original tracks, and the remixed outcomes.

There’s nothing worse than someone destroying a great song by feeling compelled to fuck with it. The hard work has already been done, the catchy riffs are there, and people recognize the song – so why not build rather than remake?

RAC are definitely building on the foundations given to them.

Currently based in the USA, the three-piece formally known as Remix Artist Collective (RAC) aren’t pushing musical boundaries or innovating new sounds, but instead they’re presenting a simple, yet effective understanding of what it takes to bring you close to ‘eargasm’.

Stand out tracks include RAC’s first remixed single, The Shins’  “Sleeping Lessons.”  The trio take nothing away from the initial impact of The Shins’ iconic sound and seamlessly fuse both differing tastes into a loveable tune.

Their take on Washed Out’s “New Theory” and The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” also leave you grasping for more. When an album kicks things off with a stellar mix of Two Door Cinema Club’s “Something Good Can Work”, you know you’re in for a good ride.

Overall, there aren’t enough groundbreaking remixes here to impress a raging dance party, but it’s definitely an enjoyable hour of music.

A few cheeky purchases on iTunes wouldn’t go a miss either, so have a listen for yourself and see what you think.
