Fresh from the recent news that the Foo Fighters played an epic Lollapalooza afterparty show (despite now being on the bill), that consisted of 32 songs and featured a number of covers, footage has emerged of The Killers’ festival set earlier that night, in which the group paid tribute to musical legends Muse and The Smashing Pumpkins.

As Rolling Stone reports, The Killers took to the stage for an 18-song set on Friday night, which saw them cover ground from the majority of their back catalogue, in addition to their new single ‘The Man’, and their frequent cover of Joy Division’s ‘Shadowplay’. Most notably though, was the inclusion of two covers, ‘Starlight’ by Muse, and ‘Disarm’, by The Smashing Pumpkins.

The cover of Muse’s ‘Starlight’ seemed to serve as a form of consolation for concertgoers who were devastated to hear that Muse had to cancel their Thursday night appearance at the festival due to very sever weather. Diverging very little from the original, the group’s version of the track was heavily appreciated by the undoubtedly still-disappointed crowd. Meanwhile, their cover of ‘Disarm’ was a minimal affair, serving as an extended intro to the group’s classic ‘Read My Mind’.

With The Killers set to hit up Aussie shores later this year for the AFL Grand Final, we’re not too certain that we’ll be hearing them play any covers, but after seeing this footage, we can only hope.

Check out The Killers’ covers of ‘Starlight’ and ‘Disarm’, as well as a recording of their whole set, below.
