It’s the end of an era. Melbourne’s iconic rock’n’roll bar Cherry Bar has announced that it will be moving from AC/DC lane, its home since 1999. The institution will have its last hoorah on AC/DC lane on Sunday, 31 March 2019. Don’t fret – this is not the end of Cherry Bar.

The bars co-owner and booker James Young has taken to Facebook to share a lengthy post explaining the situation. Cherry Bar will not be closing. The owners have the full intention to take “the name, the staff and the sticky carpet” to a new venue in Melbourne. Young has shared that the bar is currently in negotiation with 10 potential venues to find the “right place” to move Cherry Bar.

“Cherry has not been sold. Cherry is moving so that it can survive long term and continue to host, support and love the best music in the world, local live music! Change or die. We have to move.”

We just hope that they find a street with a name that was as fitting as AC/DC lane. Cold Chisel crescent perhaps? Regurgitator Road?
