The children of late Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell have accepted a posthumous Grammy award on his behalf.
Following the tragic and untimely death of Chris Cornell back in May of 2017, friends, family, and fans of the iconic musician were understandably shocked.
However, in the aftermath of his death, there was talk of plenty of unreleased material finally seeing the light of day. Then in November of 2018, fans received a posthumous career-spanning box set, fittingly-titled Chris Cornell.
“I felt we needed to create a special collection to represent all of him – the friend, husband and father, the risk taker and innovator, the poet and artist,” explained Cornell’s widow Vicky. “His soaring vocals found their way into the hearts and souls of so many. His voice was his vision and his words were his peace. This album is for his fans.”
While the box set itself featured a number of Cornell’s solo tracks, as well as work with Soundgarden, Temple Of The Dog, and Audioslave, it also featured a number of unreleased tracks. One of these tracks, ‘When Bad Does Good’, appeared to resonate with The Recording Academy honouring it with a Grammy nomination.
Up against the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Fever 333, Greta Van Fleet, and Halestorm for Best Rock Performance, the competition was always going to be fierce, however, as Rolling Stone reports, Chris Cornell managed to come out on top.

Accepting the award on his behalf, Cornell’s youngest children Toni and Christopher appeared onstage, with wife Vicky standing off to the side.
“I never thought we would be standing here without my dad,” Christopher began during his speech. “I’m sure he would be proud and honoured.”
“He is known for many things. He was a rock icon, the Godfather of grunge and a creator of a movement, whose contribution to music history made a lasting impact across genres and generations. He was also one of the greatest poets of his time, whose voice [and] soaring unforgettable vocals made him the voice of a generation.”
“While he touched the hearts of millions, the most important thing he is known for us is for being the greatest father and our hero.”
“His voice was his vision and his music was his peace,” added Toni. “Thank you to our mom – his love, his muse and his savior who continues to carry out our father’s legacy … this is for you, daddy.”
