A slew of new activity from CHVRCHES as the band dropped a new collab with The Cure’s Robert Smith and announced a new album and tour!
It will be a busy, busy year ahead for CHVRCHES. The band has just kicked off a new era of music, dropping a new track ‘How Not To Drown’ with The Cure’s Robert Smith. That’s not all: they have also confirmed that their new album Screen Violence will be out in August. A music video is also slated to arrive tomorrow.
The single, in fact, will be featured on the album, which will also be their fourth studio offering. The album’s 10 tracks were recorded remotely over a period of time during the pandemic, between Glasgow and Los Angeles.
Incidentally, the title — Screen Violence — has been about a decade in the making. According to the band, it was one of the names that they seriously considered calling themselves before locking down Chvrches. Spending an increased amount of time connecting with people digitally over the course of the pandemic revived the idea, eventually becoming the album’s title.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, lead singer Lauren Mayberry said: “I think for me it was helpful to go into the process with the idea that I could write something escapist almost. That felt freeing initially, to have concepts and stories to weave your own feelings and experiences through, but, in the end, all the lyrics were definitely still personal.”
“To me, the screen aspect was a bit more literal.” added Martin Doherty, on instrumentals. “When we were making the record, it was like half of our lives were lived through screens. What began as a concept was now a lifeline.”
