It’s currently been a few years since Coldplay last released an album, but reports say the band have a new release – featuring a huge collaboration – coming rather soon.
Ever since Coldplay released their debut album, Parachutes, back in 2000, they’ve never really kept fans waiting for a new record. In fact, with their last album, A Head Full Of Dreams, being released just a year on from Ghost Stories, fans were starting to feel a bit spoiled.
While things have been a little quiet since 2015, Coldplay haven’t exactly been taking time off, releasing their Kaleidoscope EP in 2017, and the Global Citizen EP in 2018, all while wrapping up the fourth highest-grossing tour of all-time in the process.
However, it seems as though things are about to kick off once again, with sources revealing that the band are gearing up to release a handful of new albums soon, with the first slated to arrive as early as next month.
As The Daily Star reports, sources have claimed that Coldplay are set to surprise their fans with something of an experimental record late next month, before a more traditional record follows in 2020.
“The first album is the more experimental side of Coldplay, they probably won’t tour until 2020 when the next one arrives.”
Just how “experimental” are we talking though? Well, in an interview with NME last year, friend and collaborator Mat Whitecross claimed that Coldplay are still hoping to follow in the footsteps of experimental groups like Radiohead.
“They haven’t written a Kid A yet where their entire fanbase goes ‘What the fuck is this?’,” he explained, “but I feel like if you play the first one then the most recent, it’s not a foregone conclusion.
“They always want to be challenging themselves and surprising other people – that’s why they work with people like Brian Eno. In that sense, I’m sure whatever they do next will surprise people.”

To make things even more interesting though, an Italian Coldplay page recently shared an image of what appears to be a reported tracklist for the new record.
Supposedly titled Fool’s Gold, the page claims that the record will be “an experimental and psychedelic album with a mix of X&Y, Ghost Stories and [A Head Full Of Dreams]”, while one of the album’s songs will be a collaboration with none other than Daft Punk.
The post also claims that the album’s first single could arrive within the week, while the band are apparently set to shoot some videos in the near future.
Meanwhile, another Tweet attempted to add credence to these claims, noting that recording sessions in France had been documented in July, and that the band had been named as Global Goal Live 2020 performers, meaning they could have a bunch of new material when they hit the stage.
Currently, there’s no confirmation as to any of these claims, but if reports are to be believed, it looks as though Coldplay fans could be in for a rather big year.
