Just one week after rumours of a new record did the rounds, Coldplay have given us the truth, announcing a new double album for a November release.
This time last week, fans of Coldplay were reflecting on the fact that it had been close to four years since the release of their last album, A Head Full Of Dreams. Currently the longest gap between studio albums to date, the band hadn’t exactly been taking time off, but questions about new music simmered under the surface.
However, things began to heat up when a source told The Daily Star that the band were aiming to release two new records in the coming months, with the first arriving within weeks.
“The first album is the more experimental side of Coldplay, they probably won’t tour until 2020 when the next one arrives,” the source said.
Add onto this rumour the fact that an Italian Coldplay fanpage had uncovered a supposedly leaked tracklist of the new record, revealing that Daft Punk had scored a guest spot, and the rumour mill went into overdrive.
Now, Coldplay have addressed these claims of new music by announcing the release of their long-awaited eighth album.

As the BBC reports, Coldplay announced this new record to fans by sending them a typed letter which explained the forthcoming effort.
“For the last 100 years or thereabouts we have been working on a thing called Everyday Life,” the note begins. “In the classifieds you might write ‘double album for sale, one very careful owner.’”
Going on to note that the record is due out on November 22nd, the band explained that the first half of the record is called “sunrise” while the other half is fittingly-titled “sunset”, and adding that “it is sort of how we feel about things.”
Adding on to the excitement, posters recently began to pop up around the world depicting Coldplay as an old-time wedding band, with the group sharing a similar video on their Instagram page over the weekend.
While it’s not clear if the “experimental” album we heard rumours of will arrive in this forthcoming release, we’re still sort of wondering what a collaboration between Coldplay and Daft Punk would actually sound like.
