The Collingwood football team have found themselves the unlikely stars of this year’s triple j Hottest 100.
The end of January always means the triple j Hottest 100, and as always, it means a bunch of memorable moments that enter the Aussie vernacular. After all, who could forget the classic “Ya joking shoulda been higher” that some legend commented on every post for the 2016 Hottest 100?
Now, a similar joke has emerged during this year’s countdown.
As the 2018 countdown found itself in its early days, two listeners by the name of Dante Afnan and Jaiden Fidge took to triple j’s Facebook page to begin sharing their opinion on each song.
What followed was a comment on almost every track that simply reads, “Great song but Collingwood still blew a 6 goal lead in the grand final.”
Apparently, the pair were sharing the duties while driving along, though it seems that Jaiden Fidge has since been targeted by the powers that be at Facebook, and has had his constant reminders silenced by the service.
Let’s face it, Collingwood’s loss in the 2018 AFL Grand Final was indeed a memorable moment of the year that was, but do the club’s supporters have to be reminded of it every time? Apparently, yes, and it seems that the majority of Aussie listeners are finding this quip pretty hysterical.
In fact, others have also begun to chime in, throwing in their own sports-related moments, including references to Shane Warne, and even Happy Gilmore’s Shooter McGavin. What a time to be alive.
