The Sherrin is being pumped, the pitch match-ready, and The Cup is being polished, and excitement is mounting as preparations for the annual clash between the PBS 106.7FM/Triple R 102.7FM Megahertz and The Rockdog is set to take place once more at the Sportscover Arena, Elsternwick Sports Complex on Sunday 23rd June.

With just four weeks left until the 2013 Community Cup ,and following the announcement that legendary cult Aussies Beasts of Bourbon would be performing live on the day, organisers can now reveal the impressive list of bands who will be providing match-side entertainment alongside the much loved Beasts.

Straight from the garage to the pitch is psychedelically inclined Surfcoast rockers, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The raucous nine-piece will be joined on the Community Cup bill by Melbourne fuzz pop twosome Super Wild Horses, who will also be gracing the stage, and providing some family fun in a pre-match set is Justine Clark, performing some vintage tunes and retro pop influenced numbers that the kids are sure to boogie down to.

Supplying the 2013 Community Cup’s catchphrase this year, as well as a live set, is legendary cult band Beasts of Bourbon, performing on the day fresh from their their tour with Iggy & The Stooges and their ATP appearances and inspiring this year’s theme of ‘Be Surbubran’. Paying homage to the event being proudly grass roots since its inception, ‘Be Suburban’ highlights how the Cup has annually promoted an all inclusive day of fun out in the suburbs, and upholding the tradition of it taking place on suburban footy ovals each and every year. Organisers can now reveal the impressive list of bands who will be providing match-side entertainment alongside the much loved Beasts of Bourbon

The epic play-off between the two teams, of community radio broadcasters and the Melbourne rock fraternity, reamins the centre piece of the Community Cup, but the entire day promises to be a huge one to remember. On top of the thrilling announcement of Beasts Of Bourbon, organisers have promised that there are three more bands still to be announced.

Carrying on a tradition that’s been running for the past two decades, preparations are running smoothly for the family friendly day out that all Melburnians embrace wholeheartedly. From its origins as a tidy litte AFL match amongst the music fraternity, the Community Cup has grown beautifully, last year the event saw over $70,000 raised with over 9,000 attendees heading down to see the Megahertz versus the Rockdogs. Today, the Reclink Community Cup is an essential part of the fabric of Melbourne music culture and the sporting event calendar.

Last year the match ended in a draw in the final minutes, with both teams finishing on 35 points. Who will take the honour of winning the 2013 ReclinkCommunity Cup?

The event will raise funds for Reclink Australia, who use sport and the arts to enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage and targets some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, addiction, and social and economic hardship.

With a network of over 480 member agencies around the country, Reclink Australia encourages participation in physical activity in a population group under-represented in mainstream sport, recreational programs and associations. In the past 12 months Reclink Australia provided more than 95,800 individual opportunities to participate in over 9,500 sport and arts activities around the country.

Food and beverages will be available on the day, and there will be kids activities. Entry is $10 for adults, and $5 for kids under 16. Stay tuned for more upcoming details.
