Fans have taken to social media to raise concerns for US singer Macy Gray after a UK television interview saw the musician behaving erratically recently.

Earlier this month, Macy Gray marked the 20th anniversary of the release of On How Life Is, her stunning debut record. Selling millions of copies worldwide, the record made Gray a household name, and an instant legend in the world of music.

Although recent records have not been as critically successful as her debut, Macy Gray has continued to be a prolific recording artist, releasing her 10th album, Ruby, just last year.

Currently over in the UK to perform at Peter Gabriel’s WOMAD festival, the 51-year-old also took part in an interview while in the country, speaking to Lorraine Kelly as part of her titular program, Lorraine.

However, while Gray opened up about fame and her life in the music business, fans soon wondered about the artist’s wellbeing following a number of erratic responses.

After being asked about a recent trip to hospital, Macy Gray appeared to play off the question by explaining that “I’m a vampire”, before her subsequent responses seemed to take the joke a little too far.

“I needed a blood transfusion,” she explained. “I just want to bite people! But that’s illegal.”

“Maybe don’t do that,” Lorraine Kelly responded with an air of awkwardness.

While Gray did touch upon some interesting topics, including noting how social media is an issue since “suddenly everything you do and say is, […] people write it down or they remember,” the awkwardness continued, with the artist asking for directions to a different interview, and explained why Lorraine should record its episodes later so that she wouldn’t have to get up so early.

Macy Gray is yet to comment publicly on the recent interview.
