Simon Cowell has been making headlines this week after he debuted his new leathery-face. Now, the music mogul has somehow gotten himself embroiled in a strange beef with metal’s favourite masked deviants, Slipknot.
UK Tabloid The Sun, ran a column by entertainment writer Simon Boyle, from the perspective of Simon Cowell. The column, appropriately titled
“YOU all know I’m a pop guy – I mean, I’ve made millions from One Direction, Little Mix, Olly Murs and so on,” The column read.
“So I wasn’t impressed [when] Ed Sheeran – one of my faves but not a money-spinner for moi, annoyingly – has been knocked off the No1 album spot by some weirdo masked group called Slipknot. Hideous.
“I wonder if they’ll do X-Factor All-Stars next year. With a snappy dance routine and a makeover, they might have a future.”
Naturally, the column confused a lot of people. The satire was completely lost on Blood Youth guitarist Chris Pritchard. Pritchard shared a photo of the column on Twitter, writing “I loved watching Simon Cowell throw a tantrum over RAGE landing Christmas number 1 back in 2009, and I’m loving watching him throw a tantrum over Slipknot landing a number 1 record.
“Here’s to the future of heavy music, and to the next time Simon Cowell gets butthurt!”
Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor responded to the tweet, implying that Cowell was still salty over getting a shoutout in his individual Christmas solo track ‘X-M@S’.
Hahaha he’s still pissed I threw a ‘Hi Simon’ into the end of ‘X-M@$’ 😜🤷♂️
