There will be no fireworks at this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival.
The decision was made earlier this week to cancel fireworks at last night’s opening concert in Bicentennial Park.
And that decision extends to all other events at the festival across the 10 day festival as well.
“Out of respect to Australians affected by bushfires over the past months, we will not be having fireworks at this year’s festival,” the statement from the Tamworth council read.
“Funds will be reinvested into more family-friendly activities including the new Festival Fringe running every night at the bottom of Fitzroy Plaza, and we will continue to support the funding of drought and fire-related charities and events.”
Last night’s opening concert featured performances from Adam Brand, Blake O’Conner, Andrew Swift, Ashleigh Dallas and Lyn Bowtell.
The crowd was also given the opportunity to participate in ‘The Git Up’ challenge!
While normally this would be considered a problem, no one could be happier this year following years of drought and of course, the recent bushfires.
