Courtney Barnett has teamed up with indie-rock icons Wilco to perform a rendition of their 2004 track ‘Handshake Drugs’ while performing at the band’s Solid Sound Festival recently.
If you’re a fan of Australian music icon Courtney Barnett, then you would likely be aware of her penchant for Chicago musical outfit Wilco.
Having worn shirts of the band over the years, and having performed alongside frontman Jeff Tweedy’s Tweedy project to perform a David Bowie cover in 2016, it’s no secret that the Aussie rocker is a bit of a fan.
Now, the two acts have teamed up once again, this time for another magical collaboration.

Performing as part of Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival in Massachusetts this weekend, Courtney Barnett found herself onstage with the rockers to help close out their main set.
Taking part in ‘Wilco Karaoke’ – which saw friends and fans of the band singing the group’s songs while backed by the band themselves – Barnett jumped onstage to bust out a rendition of ‘Handshake Drugs’, from the band’s 2004 record, A Ghost Is Born.
Despite performances from Jeff Tweedy and his namesake in recent years, Australia hasn’t been lucky enough to witness a performance from Wilco since way back in 2013 – over two albums ago.
Considering that Courtney Barnett has recently been announced as one of the acts scheduled to perform on the band’s upcoming Sky Blue Sky “destination concert experience” in Mexico, here’s hoping she might be able to convince the group to make their long-awaited return to our shores.
In related news, Wilco upped their merch game last year, welcoming an official axe into their web store. Despite being limited to just 15, and boasting a price tag of almost $500, the item appears to have sold out already.
