Courtney Love has said she considers America’s Sweetheart one of her “life’s great shames,” along with her fling with a certain British comedian.
From showing up to an interview naked and drunk, to being on the receiving end of a restraining order, the Hole frontwoman is certainly no stranger to scandals. But, rather than one of her more outrageous feats, Courtney Love has revealed that her biggest embarrassments in life is actually her solo album America’s Sweetheart, dubbing it one of her “life’s great shames.”
Love posted a photo on Instagram of a car inspired by the album, along with her thoughts on the album.
“Happy Australian cruising around, Australia… “America’s Sweetheart“ having her revenge, on, Melbourne ? AMAZING. !
Maybe one day I won’t hate that record. It has some good songs . But like Steve Coogan, or crack, it’s one of my life’s great shames. Just the period, sloppiness, men, money, drugs, nightmare…. although Chateau Miraval (where we made it) doesn’t suck.”

Love and Coogan were romantically linked in 2005 but she’s been dismissive of the relationship in previous interviews.
“All it was was a couple of shags at the Sunset Marquis [hotel],” she told Love Magazine. She also admitted that she wasn’t familiar with Coogan’s most famous TV character, Alan Partridge. “I had never seen Alan Partridge. But I was in a band with people who did know about Alan Partridge, so I had to make a record with them constantly saying to me: ‘Back of the net!’”
America’s Sweetheart was released in 2004 when Love was fighting drug addiction. The scathing album review from Pitchfork reflected the struggle. “Collapsible, frantic, and depressingly repulsive” they harshly dubbed the album.
Clearly, not one to hold her tongue, Love has recently been vocal about the special access she has to COVID-19 testing due to her celebrity status. Taking to Instagram (again) she revealed, “I’ve never been great at this 1 percenter s***. I love myself some fine living, but in the end I bleed liberal, “I wish I didn’t sometimes, maybe it’s not liberal, maybe it’s humanist…” her post continued. “I have and many of my wealthy friends have had access to Covid test kits, for over 6 months.”
