In a heartfelt Instagram post, Courtney Love shared her thoughts on what would have marked her and Kurt Cobain’s 28th wedding anniversary.
February 24th would have been the day for Love and Cobain to celebrate their wedding. 28 years later, singer-songwriter Love is feeling the ache of losing her husband of only two years, iconic Nirvana frontman Cobain.
Love took to Instagram to reveal some of the details surrounding their beautiful wedding day, and how she spent the anniversary.
“28 years ago we got married in Honolulu on Waikiki beach” began Love. “Tonight [I] spoke to [a] sponsor, I lit some candles, chanted diamoku, walked my dog, [and] went to sushi with my best friend…the closest I have to another one.”
Love went on to reveal how she felt on her wedding day, stating “I recall feeling deeply delighted, dizzy, so in love, and knowing how lucky I was.” Continuing with, “This man was an angel. I thank him for looking out for me.”

Over the years, Love has been in the news repeatedly. From accusations that she is the reason for Kurt Cobain’s demise, to fighting to keep the photos of Cobain’s death private. With this constant battle, spanning over a quarter of a century, it’s no wonder she has experienced some dark moments.
“Many parts of the the last 28 years have been torturous, chaotic, uphill, and in public? That is the darkest shit imaginable. It almost tapped my resilience…almost.”
“But, between Kurt’s strange, amazing divinity, and the honor of a few true friends, the gift of desperation and sobriety, of a Higher power and of love, and of empathy, I’m here now.”
In a final statement, Love admitted that despite the years of setbacks, and pain, she’ll “be ok.”
“Fuck. I see him on the shore. Rocking in the free world. My husband.”
The heartfelt post had fans weeping, with many comments sharing their love for Cobain and Love’s short lived marriage. The tribute brought back memories of Cobain’s all-too-short life, and the legacy that lives on between him and Love.
