Current Joys have conjured up the spirit of Stanley Kubrick with a cover of Boys Next Door’s ‘Shivers’ performed as part of their Phantom of the Highland Park Ebell live stream concert.

Dubbed a “horror-comedy-play-concert-film-experience”, the band performed a startling live set in rehearsal for the grand re-opening of the Highland Park Ebell. The set pulled tracks from their latest album, Voyager. The result is something straight out of Eyes Wide Shut, complete with spooky masquerade masks.

“I’ll never forget the first time I heard Birthday Party playing ‘Shivers’. I felt like I had stumbled upon the greatest song ever written,” Nick Rattigan explains. “It was probably the same way most people found it – this YouTube video of baby faced Nick Cave spilling his guts out to the minimalist pop anthem.

“Much like any obsessive fan of the song, I soon found out it isn’t baby faced Nick at all. It is actually a Rowland s Howard song – one of rock’s true unsung heroes. ”

He adds, “This song was so deeply engraved into my consciousness while I was writing this album that it felt wrong not to include it.”
