Spinal Tap fans may have been incensed recently to hear that the members of Spinal Tap — aka the creators of the film, the band, the music, and all of it — have only seen $179 in royalties in the past 22 years.
The good news is, the Spinal Tap world will expand shortly with the release of a Derek Smalls solo record, according to a tweet from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The even better news is that Dave Grohl and Chad Smith appear to be playing on the record.
Okay, now for the bad news: anyone who’s seen the film will know that Spinal Tap drummers have an awful habit of dying prematurely, from causes such as spontaneous combustion to “bizarre gardening accidents.” Still until that awful point, we will enjoy whatever music comes out of this collaboration.
