January 8th 2018 will mark the two year anniversary of David Bowie’s passing. To honour is ever-burning creative spirit and enduring impact on pop culture, HBO will release The Last Five Years, providing fans with an insight into Bowie’s recording process of The Next Day, Blackstar and his musical Lazurus.
Bowie is seen in the trailer musing on his artistic process saying “I have a certain niche that I work in. A lot of it tends to be about alienation, being on the outside of things. That tends to be where I feel more comfortable as a writer.” The doco will also feature rare archival footage of Bowie as well as anecdotal recallings from longtime producer, Tony Visconti, and bandmates Earl Slick, Gail Ann Dorsey and Carlos Alomar.

The documentary is directed by Francis Whatley, who’s is very well versed in capturing the unique essence of Bowie previously directing David Bowie: Five Years.
