If you had plans to see the Dead Kennedys in Sydney and Melbourne this November but were dismayed to learn the shows had sold out, there’s good news, with the punk icons announcing extra shows today.

Last month we learned that US punk legends the Dead Kennedys were set to make their first visit to Australia this year since 2014. Armed with a back catalogue of punk classics, the group are set to give their local fans a history lesson in one of music’s most controversial genres.

First forming back in 1978, the Dead Kennedys quickly rose to prominence in the world of punk music thanks to their outspoken political views, blistering tunes, and with their outrage-provoking behaviour. From their name alone, to their artwork, and even to their song titles, which included tracks such as ‘Nazi Punks Fuck Off‘, ‘Holiday In Cambodia’, and ‘Too Drunk To Fuck’, the group flirted with controversy wherever they went.

Heading to Australia in 1983 at the height of their fame, the group proved their worth as one of the most dangerous groups going around. But unfortunately, the punk scene became too much for the group, and after finding themselves alienated from their own audiences, they called it quits back in 1986.

However, after spending the latter part of the ’90s stuck in a royalties lawsuit, the group decided to reform, albeit without their iconic frontman Jello Biafra. Following a couple of Aussie tours back in 2011 and 2014, the group have decided to grace us with their presence once again.

Now, the group have announced extra shows in Sydney and Melbourne for their clearly eager fans.

With the band’s first Aussie date scheduled to take place at the Metro Theatre on November 2nd, their tour will now kick off two days earlier, with an extra Sydney show announced for Wednesday, October 31st at the same venue.

Likewise, the band have also announced that they’ll play an extra Melbourne show at Max Watts on Monday, November 5th, just two days after they play the Croxton in Thornbury. If you’re a bit worried about being at a rock show on a Monday night, don’t forget that it’ll be Melbourne Cup Day Eve, so feel free to mosh to your heart’s content!

Tickets to the band’s other shows are selling fast, so be sure not to miss out on your chance to see one of the most iconic groups in all of punk history.
