English singer Dido has opened up about her young son, revealing that his name was not actually inspired by one of her most famous collaborations.
Back in the mid-’90s, English singer Dido began what would be an extremely successful music career. Appearing on the debut album by Faithless, she soon released ‘Here With Me’ as her debut single, one year after her song ‘Thank You’ had appeared on the Sliding Doors soundtrack.
By 2000, ‘Thank You’ had been released as the third single from her debut album, and by 2001, it was all over the charts. However, the song’s popularity wasn’t over yet, gaining a significant boost of fame thanks its appearance as part of Eminem’s ‘Stan’, and Dido’s own appearance in the film clip.
Sampling the opening lyrics from ‘Thank You’, ‘Stan’ went on to become one of the biggest rap songs of all time, gave birth to a slang term, and was even named on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of ‘500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll’.

However, while the song might have been a pretty important part of both Dido and Eminem’s respective lives, it’s actually led to the former having to explain something that has confused fans for a few years.
Back in 2011, Dido gave birth to her son Stanley, leading to many fans putting two and two together and believing it to be a nod to her early success.
Now, Dido has appeared on a UK TV program where she opened up about her son’s iconic name. While she acknowledged that everyone seems to think Eminem’s single and her son are linked, she insists that the name has “nothing to do with the song.”

“When I was a teenager, I was with my mate, I remember sitting on a wall, and they were like, ‘What are you going to call your kid?’ and I was like, ‘Stanley’,” Dido explained.
“Bizarrely, when I met my husband, that was the name that was his favourite for different reasons.”
Considering her fondness for the name, it seems that being asked to collaborate with Eminem was something of a dream come true for Dido (who herself has six names in her legal moniker).
Whatever the case, we can only assume that her son will be receiving a copy of The Marshall Mathers LP when he’s old enough.
