We Are Dirt Farmer.

Do you prefer the studio or the stage? Which and why?

It’s always really exciting for us to head into the studio because it’s a pretty rare occurrence.  We like to keep things organic with our song writing process and we tend not to involve modern technology too much, so when we get a chance to work with a pro engineer/producer that can help us get that sound onto wax, we all get pretty psyched.

You’ve supported some pretty notables bands, what’s the craziest thing you’ve seen happen on stage?

Considering the more notable bands we have supported have been bands such as Husky, The Rubens, and Alpine, we are yet to see something badass happen on stage, but I’ll never forget seeing Fred Negro get his ding-dong out while playing with “The Fuck Fuck’s” at the Espy.

Musicians tend to garner a lot of attention from the ladies, how much dirt have you farmed?

Whoa whoa whoa, am I reading this correctly or am I a total sicko?  We do alright.

How does it feel to hear your songs being played on radio?

It’s insane.  To know the song is going out to so many people at the one time is pretty mind blowing, and we’re still in the minor leagues!

You’ve played all around Melbourne; do you hold any sentimental feeling toward a particular venue?

When a couple of us first came to Melbourne we literally use to run to 161 on Thursday nights to see bands.  The Ding Dong Lounge was also a liquor and smoke filled wonderland. The last one would have to have been the East Brunswick Club, which was where we supported Husky and The Paper Kites, and where we got our most recent single mixed by Steve Schram…. Last song ever to be mixed inside that building.

If you could collaborate with anyone living or dead who would it be?

To collaborate with Dirt Farmer, it would have to be Keith Richards.

What band has excited you the most from the last 12 months?

We’ll take this opportunity to plug our favourite local acts. “The Messengers” are a Melbourne powerhouse and their single “We Can’t Get Along” is the business. “Tigertown” and “Jimmy Hawk and the Endless Party” are among our other top choices.  Check ‘em all out.

Touring and recording can be stressful exercises and cause much tension, which member would win in band fisticuffs?

Tom and Stu are landscaper gardeners so they are kind of rugged, but Nico would be the clear winner – the guy spends his days scaling skyscrapers.  Yes, he is exactly like Spiderman, and yes, we are aware of how awesome that is.

Self-promotion is all-important in music, what’s happening next for the band?

We are going to be playing anywhere with a stage for the next few months before recording our next EP. We were stoked with the sound of “Kick It” so we are heading back into the studio with Steve Schram later in the year to punch out a more jacked up and jive-friendly rock and roll record.
