Having been on the road for the past two years touring worldwide, Dream On Dreamer finally gathered time to record and release their new album Loveless, which is our now!

Loveless was produced and mixed by guitarist Callan Orr, while vocalist Marcel Gadacz designed the artwork and imagery for the record.  Their DIY mentality has certainly been asserted on this album and is also the first record as a five piece, after a lineup shuffle saw them move keyboardist Daniel Jungwirth to bass, as well as the addition of new clean vocalist, Zachary Britt, into the fold.

We caught up with Zach and Deej to chat their biggest cooking disasters, what they munch on in the tour van and the one meal they cannot live without:

What were your food influences when you were growing up and what kind of food did you eat at home or with your family?

Zach– My family has Fijian background so a lot of curries with roti (naan) were my favourites!
Deej– I grew up on a beef cattle farm so I was eating steaks every second night for dinner… loved it! Apart from that, my mum made a big effort to make sure we always ate healthily. She’s a bit of a wizard chef and definitely my biggest food influence.

What are your favourite tour van/plane munchies?

Zach– Sour snakes or Doritos
Deej– I love nuts! Pistachios, cashews, almonds, its all good. And bananas!

What type of food do you hate, and what is the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten?

Zach– I used to hate so many foods but I’ve slowly forced myself to get into them over the years, can’t handle tuna though, hell no.
Deej- I think pizza is a real waste of time! I don’t know what all the fuss is about, I’d rather eat ANYTHING ELSE. Boring food.

What type of food do you make sure to avoid before a gig or going on stage?

Zach– Anything too filling really. I try not too eat much after lunch when we’re playing shows, playing on a full stomach is heinous !
Deej– I will eat anything, any time, anywhere! Sometimes I feel a bit questionable on stage but it’s worth it, eating rules.

Imagine for a second you can request anything on your rider for your current tour. What food and drinks would you put on it?

Zach-Fresh sushi all day! And saki while we’re at it, why not.
Deej- I would definitely be asking for Up & Gos, 2L of drinking custard, and chocolate pudding. Yum

What has been your biggest cooking disaster to date?

Zach– I tried to cook deep fried burritos one night. They all came apart in the oil and it was just a large, incredibly hot, mess of oil and char grilled ingredients. I think I headed straight to maccas after that
Deej– I was seeing a girl a while back and I might have bragged a bit about how great I was making homemade pancakes. And I am pretty good. But this morning I was exhausted, didn’t care, burnt them all, got ridiculed and we ended up going out for breakfast.

If you were throwing a dinner party and could invite any musicians, living or dead, who would they be and why?

Zach- Jimi Hendrix for sure because he seems like a total dude. Him and Kanye so me and Hendrix could throw whatever we were eating at him and call him a dick.
Deej– Well I wouldnt invite anyone dead to my dinner party because it would be disgusting to eat with a corpse, and it might affect my appetite. But I would definitely invite daft punk round for a feed, and I think theyd appreciate my chocolate pudding

Where’s your favorite music venue to eat at in your hometown?

Zach-Music Cafe in West End Brisbane has always had great bands on when I’ve eaten there
Deej– Dreamer love hitting upstairs at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne for a Parma! It’s been a ritual whenever we play there, or when we go to our labels offices in richmond, and I think we even signed our record contract there.

What music do you like to play when you’re cooking?

Zach– Bon Iver, Foals, Frank Ocean. Anything chilled pretty much.
Deej – Cant go wrong with Daft Punk

What is one meal you could not live without?

Zach– A big breakfast with the lot! Can’t get enough of a good breaky fry up.
Deej– Homemade chocolate pudding has been a staple of mine for a long time, my housemates get very excited when I start cooking it. Chocolate pudding is definitely a meal!!

This is a great base for a pudding, editing ingredients to taste… An easy addition is adding cooking white chocolate chips to the batter… holy moly.

Just be sure to use high quality flour and cocoa powder too.

Loveless is out now  through UNFD.
