Ed Kuepper has pulled together some of Australia’s most legendary musicians in order to perform the first three albums from his former group The Saints.
The band — cheekily titled The Aints — features Peter Oxley from The Sunnyboys, Paul Larson of The Celibate Rifles, and celebrated jazz pianist Alister Spence. There will also be a brass section for the band’s brass-heavy second record, Eternally Yours.
The band will perform 1977’s (I’m) Stranded, and 1978’s Eternally Yours and Prehistoric Sounds. Kuepper left the band after the third album to form Laughing Clowns.
“I don’t think that anyone, myself included, would have thought that this material I wrote when I was starting out would still have currency after all this time”, Kuepper admits of the tour. “But here we are celebrating it’s 40th anniversary. I’m actually pretty chuffed about doing it and have got a top notch band together to play the stuff.”
Kuepper used the band name The Aints during the early ’90s in order to play noisy shows. He even released two studio records and a live album under this name.
