Ed Sheeran has already dominated the world of pop music, but now the English muso is set to take on the big screen.

Over the last year, Ed Sheeran has been slowly turning his attention to the world of TV, having appeared in episodes of The Simpsons and Game Of Thrones to mixed reviews. However, it appears that the musician is now set to appear in a new film by Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting director Danny Boyle.

As the Associated Press reports, Sheeran is set to star in the as-yet-untitled film, which was written by acclaimed screenwriter Richard Curtis.

A musical comedy set in past, the film stars Himesh Patel as a struggling musician who wakes up one day as the only person who can remember The Beatles.

“And then I discover him and take him on tour. Then he gets much, much bigger than me through doing stuff. Yeah, it’s very clever,” explained Sheeran of his role in the film.

“They shot it around loads of my gigs. So it was a very intense two months. Because I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film,” he continued. “I was playing myself, so I don’t think I was that bad. There wasn’t much to (mess) up.”

By the sound of things, it doesn’t look as though Ed Sheeran really wants to give up music in favour of acting, though he did note that starring in a film like the critically-acclaimed Once could be right up his alley.

“I want to make something like that. Something like that where songs dictate the film in a way,” Sheeran explained. “I can’t see myself playing an Avenger, you know? I don’t really want to be actor.”

Earlier this year, Game Of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn spoke out against Ed Sheeran’s cameo in the show, calling it “stupid”.

“I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game Of Thrones,” Nairn explained. “I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid. I don’t mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world.”

“Especially Ed Sheeran,” he continued. “I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’ I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He’s a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game Of Thrones?”

“I’m not saying I’m not a fan of Ed Sheeran, I’m being tactful here, but just not a fan of the cameo. I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality. It’s like, ‘What? What?’”

“It’s a fantasy show,” he continued. “We’re all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there’s a pop star? What?”

At this stage, September 2019 is looking like when Dany Boyle’s new film is set to be released, so depending on your attitude towards Ed Sheeran, now’s the time to start counting down the days, or making plans to avoid it completely.
