It turns out that you’re not the only one who thought that Ed Sheeran’s cameo appearance on Game Of Thrones was questionable at best, with one of the show’s most beloved actors explaining his disdain for the pop star’s appearance in a recent interview.

Back in July, Ed Sheeran inexplicably appeared on an episode of the critically-acclaimed HBO series Game Of Thrones, where he, for some reason, even sang a song. Opinions were obviously divided about the cameo, with fans of the singer unable to contain their excitement, while fans of the show were hoping that Sheeran’s character would be the next to be killed off.

However, if you weren’t a fan of his appearance, it turns out you weren’t alone – Hodor is right there with you.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, actor Kristian Nairn, who (SPOILER ALERT) hasn’t actually been on the show since 2016, opened up about Ed Sheeran’s brief cameo, calling it “stupid”.

“I’m not a fan of the cameos in Game Of Thrones,” Nairn explained. “I don’t like them. I think it’s stupid. I don’t mind going on the record on that. I just think it takes you right out of the world.”

“Especially Ed Sheeran,” he continued. “I was like, ‘Why is Ed Sheeran here?’ I mean, Ed Sheeran’s great. He’s a great guy, great musician, but why is he in Game Of Thrones?”

“I’m not saying I’m not a fan of Ed Sheeran, I’m being tactful here, but just not a fan of the cameo. I think most people would agree with me there. It was a big snap to reality. It’s like, ‘What? What?’”

“It’s a fantasy show,” he continued. “We’re all caught in this amazing world and spend so much time and money and talent to create, and all of a sudden there’s a pop star? What?”

Of course, Ed Sheeran wasn’t the first celebrity to cameo in an episode of Game Of Thrones, with members of Mastodon, Snow Patrol, Coldplay, and even Sigur Rós appearing in the program in the past. As it turns out though, Sigur Rós’ cameo was the only one that old mate Hodor could actually enjoy.

“[Sigur Rós] kind of got away with it because they’re so quirky,” Kristian Nairn explained to The Huffington Post. “They’re almost like Game Of Thrones world in real life. They’re so elven and spiritual. I think that works, but apart from that — I mean, I understand why people want to be in it, but just no. Go away.”

If you happened to miss it yesterday, Kristian Nairn recently found himself in France, where he was spotted jamming out on stage with thrash-metal legends Megadeth. No word yet if there’s a collab in the works, but hey, if we’ve seen Ed Sheeran on Game Of Thrones, anything could happen at this point.
