Renowned rock singer Eddie Money has informed fans that he’s facing a rather serious health battle, revealing his diagnosis with oesophageal cancer.
Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, it was almost impossible to ignore the impact that Eddie Money had on rock and pop music.
Releasing his first album in 1977, Money rose to fame with huge tracks like ‘Two Tickets To Paradise’ and ‘Maybe I’m A Fool’, before taking the ’80s by storm with the likes of ‘Take Me Home Tonight’.
However, as Rolling Stone notes, the rocker is set to use an upcoming episode of his Real Money television program to outline his battle with cancer.
“I thought I was going in for a check-up and [the doctor] told me I got cancer,” Eddie Money can be seen explaining in a preview of the upcoming episode.
“Eddie has been diagnosed with Stage 4 oesophageal cancer,” wife Laurie added. “It’s in his oesophagus, it’s in the top of his stomach – it’s where the tumour is – and it’s also spread to his liver.”

According to Rolling Stone, the rocker received the news of his diagnosis while filming the second season of the reality show, with the episode which deals with his diagnosis set to air on September 12th.
“When we found out that I had cancer and that it was stage 4 and that it was in my liver and my lymph nodes and a little bit in my stomach… It hit me really, really hard,” he continues.
“What I don’t want to do is I don’t want to keep the fact that I have cancer from everybody. It’s not honest. I want to be honest with everybody.
“I want people to know that cancer has come a long way and not everybody dies from cancer like they did in the ’50s and ’60s. Am I going to live a long time? Who knows? It’s in God’s hands.”
While this is undoubtedly devastating news for fans of Eddie Money, it follows on from last month’s cancellation of a number of US tour dates, with the rocker forced to axe the shows after coming down with pneumonia following heart valve surgery.
We wish Eddie Money and his family all the best during this difficult time.
