Elon Musk is a 21-century visionary who constantly seeks out the extremes and pushes the boundaries of modern life. David Bowie, was similarly an artist who set out to carve his own path and shift paradigms within society through his art.
Having previously expressed his desire to die on Mars, there’s no surprise as to what Musk’s music choice was while launching his SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket.
According to Musk, “anything boring is terrible” so he decided to ensure that the rocket was fuelled with creativity, fitting it with an exposed cherry red Tesla Roadster, ready to blast ‘Space Oddity’ on an endless loop.
Bowie, like Musk, had a pretty public fascination with space and humanity’s ability to imagine its wonders and explore its boundaries so it is fitting that that Musk is honouring his legacy in this manner.
Bowie recorded multiple ‘space’ themed songs during his career including, Moonage Daydream, Starman, Life on Mars?, Hallo Spaceboy and Born in a UFO.
Bowie also shared Musk’s distaste for anything boring, with his much-shared quote, ‘I don’t know where I’m going from here but I promise it won’t be boring.’
