For six months now, a slow-burning beef between rap icons Eminem and Snoop Dogg has been brewing.

The spat was sparked back in July after Snoop was asked why Eminem didn’t make his list of the 10 greatest rappers of all time, a list that included names like Slick Rick, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, KRS1, Rakim, Run (Run DMC), DMC (Run DMC), Big Daddy Kane, Ice T and Too Short.

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Snoop detailed his reason behind Eminem’s omission from ranking.  “There’s some n****s in the 80s that [Eminem] can’t fuck with,” Snoop explained. “Like Rakim, like Big Daddy Kane, like KRS-One, like LL Cool J … Like Ice Cube.”

“It is what it is,” Snoop said. Though he gave Em kudos, praising the Detroit rapper as “one of my teammates, one of my brothers.”

“But when you’re talking about this hip-hop shit that I can’t live without, I can live without that.”

Eminem wasn’t going to let this bone of contention go unpicked. The rapper responded to Snoop’s comment in his track ‘Zeus’, featured on the deluxe edition of his album Music to Be Murdered By.

As far as squashing beef I’m used to people knocking me / But just not in my camp / And diplomatic as I’m tryin’ to be / Last thing I need is Snoop doggin’ me / Man, Dogg, you was like a damn god to me / Meh, not really (haha) / I had dog backwards.”

During a segment on Em’s radio station Shade 45 on December 31st, the rapper further delved into Snoop’s comments, admitting he took umbrage with “the tone he [Snoop] was using” that caught Em “off guard”.

“I just saw you [Snoop]. What the fuck? It threw me for a loop. Again, I probably could’ve gotten past the whole tone and everything, but it was the last statement where he said, ‘Far as music I can live without, I can live without that shit.’ Now you’re being disrespectful. It just caught me off guard. I wasn’t ready for that.”

Snoop has since responded to Eminem’s vexations. On Friday, January 1st, Snoop responded to an Eminem fan Instagram account that posed the question: “Was Snoop Dogg being disrespectful when he said he could live without Eminem’s music?”\

“Pray I don’t answer that soft ass Shit,” Snoop wrote in response, accompanied by three laugh-cry emojis.
