The Jezabels have unleashed the new single from their much anticipated debut album Prisoner, ‘Endless Summer’. In an not entirely unexpected progression from previous singles ‘Easy To Love’ and ‘Mace Spray’ the band’s sound heads widescreen and towards the stadiums many expect them to eventually grace. With a deft genuflection to the wide horizons of U2 circa The Unforgettable Fire or even Big Country’s The Crossing, the track leaps from atmospheric restraint to big choruses with relative ease as if soundtracking a breakup scene in a Hollywood blockbuster.
Vocalist Hayley Mary’s voice remains angelic with an undercurrent of hurt and venom, but perhaps almost restrained to what she is capable of in live performances. Curiously this highlight of the band’s sound appears somewhat buried in the mix – there’s a killer song in there but the dynamics of the mix seem to be restraining it.
