Eskimo Joe have announced a one-off hometown show, playing iconic album Black Fingernails, Red Wine, in full.

Next month, we mark the 21st anniversary of Eskimo Joe’s debut EP. Titled Sweater, the title track seemed to be inspired by how the group adopted their name – taking it from an op shop t-shirt of Oklahoman restaurant chain Eskimo Joe’s.

While the tune was a surprise hit upon its release, few knew that it would be the first taste of the successful Aussie rock icons that the band would soon become.

After the critical success of their debut album Girl in 2001, the group hit #2 on the ARIA charts with 2004’s A Song Is A City. However, it was 2006’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine that really stole the show.

Their biggest album to date, the record would be certified as 4xPlatinum, and go on to spend more than 50 weeks on the charts. Needless to say, it’s no mean feat for any band.

Now, Eskimo Joe are set to celebrate this legendary release with a special reissue and one-off show.

Coming as part of their 21st anniversary series, Eskimo Joe have announced the reissue of their iconic album. In addition to featuring an additional 25 extra songs, the new reissue will also be available on “bright red” vinyl this May.

However, Eskimo Joe aren’t content to just leave it at that. No, instead, the group will be celebrating this reissue with a special one-off hometown performance which will see them playing the classic album in full.

Taking place on May 10th (one month short of the album’s 13th birthday), Eskimo Joe will hit up the Freo Social Club for a special homecoming show. Featuring Little Birdy’s Katy Steele on support, this is set to be one amazing celebration of Western Australian music.

While there’s no word yet as to when the rest of the country might see these iconic rockers on tour, it looks like you might need to make your way over to Fremantle if you want to catch them live.

Pre-orders for the reissue of Black Fingernails, Red Wine are available now, with tickets to the band’s hometown show available from Thursday.
