Evanescence are back in the studio recording new music, and have kindly given us a taste of their return with their first new recording in eight years, a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’, to be featured on video game Gears of War 5.

Yep, that heading is definitely a doozy. There’s a lot here to process, but first, let us celebrate the sweet return of Evanescence. It’s been eight years since their last rock recording guys. Eight whole years.

Formed in the mid-90s, the two-time GRAMMY Award-winning band Evanescence have made an inexplicably massive impact on people around the world. The group’s 2003 landmark debut single and global hit ‘Bring Me to Life’, reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as marking their first U.K. #1 hit single.

Not to mention it’s an incredible song and defined an entire generation of music listeners, with lasting popularity into even the late 2010s.

‘The Chain’ is the first release in what is expected to be a very active period for Evanescence. Following their critically acclaimed foray into symphonic music with 2017’s Synthesis album and world tour, the five-piece has reemerged by embracing the heavier sound that we know and love from the band.

The best news from all of this is that the band is currently working on new original music, which will start rolling out in 2020 in advance of their next studio album. We absolutely cannot wait.

“This cover was so fun to make. We love Fleetwood Mac and wanted to paint a dark and epic picture with our take on ‘The Chain,’” says Amy Lee. “The lyrics make me feel the power of standing together against great forces trying to pull us apart, perhaps even from the inside. I really wanted to drive that home in our version, and even made everyone in the band sing by the end of it! We’re beyond excited to share this with our fans and I’m really looking forward to playing it live.”
